2010-11 ISAY Executive Committee

  • Brendon Best, President

Brendon learnt from an early age while growing up in Trinidad that dreams weren’t meant to be dreams alone- they’re meant to inspire one to achieve life’s goals. And when reality struck that he’d be heading a student organisation as prestigious as ISAY, it was absolutely mind-blowing! Having assumed several leadership positions on campus, he’s really excited about transferring those skills into continuing the well-loved traditions of the group but also sprinkling some fresh creative additions. Outside ISAY, Brendon hopes to graduate this year with bachelors in education and French and envisages globe trotting after that, educating the world’s minds.
It takes two to tango, wanna move? Sashay over to president@isay.ca and we’ll make it happen!

  • Shareefah Rene, Vice President
  • Hi, I am Shareefah Rene a fourth year student, pursuing International Studies at York University’s bilingual-Glendon campus.  I am from the beautiful Caribbean island of Saint Lucia. My York experience has been extremely exciting and interesting thus far. This year I look forward to undertaking the role of Vice President because being the events coordinator last year allowed me to meet so many amazing new friends from around the globe and gave me the chance to develop new skills that will serve me greatly for the rest of my life. I have no doubt that being involved in ISAY again this year will undoubtedly add great value to my last year at York and I am grateful for the chance to bring a feeling of community to international students. At ISAY, our door and hearts are always open to you, let’s truly redefine the possible and bring the world to York!

  • Eve Kachaje, Student Affairs Director

    eve
"HI!" That is usually how Eve will greet you, with a smile on her face and warmth in her laugh, simply because she loves people. This is probably the first and most important reason she joined ISAY in her first year – to meet people! And it has been an amazing experience! When presented with the opportunity to help serve the very people she enjoys meeting and working with most (i.e students!) she could not but JUMP at the opportunity. Eve also happens to be a third-year English major and philosophy minor, but that’s only when she’s not too busy living her other life J
This year, she hopes to live up to the wonderful work of the previous ISAY exec’s, who have made ISAY what it is, and go beyond the call of duty. She aims to advocate for international student’s at York and help make the international experience a positive one for all who happen to cross her path, international or domestic! She herself is an international student from Malawi – the Warm Heart of Africa.

  • Tania Roden. Financial Director

Olá! Hejsa! Hello! Bonjour! Sawubona!
So… according to the Chinese calendar, people in the year 1989, the year of the Snake are: by nature contradictable... intellectual... passionate & sometimes faired... can lack self-confidence... Are self-critical... Have a natural leadership.... Romantic... a little mysterious... Sentimental… so if you take all those little tit-bits, along with a duel ethnicity of Danish-Mozambican; having lived in 4 countries in the past 3 years; a self-proclaimed sports-chick - especially when it comes to tennis and soccer; a bilingual who has a love for traveling, exploring and learning; and the belief that it’s the “dash that matters”, then you are likely to have bumped into me, Tania Maj V. Roden, 2nd year International Development Studies student, and a fond member of ISAY!
See you around J

  • Kimberley Badal , Events Coordinator
    kim
Hola, haai, salut, aloha, ciao or wha a gwan is hello from across the world. I am Kimberly Badal and I am an International Student from Trinidad. My major at York is Biomedical Science and I am in my third year.  I love to travel because I thoroughly enjoy experiencing new cultures. Culture brings about an excitement and gives me an adrenaline rush.  Consequently, I have found my home in ISAY. It is our mini representation of the world right here in Canada. Let us have a great year. Let us come together and share what is closest to us and what we identify with.  This year I hope to facilitate this tandem exchange of who we are with ISAY events. You would not want to miss them!

  • Pavel Castillo, Marketing Director

    pavel
“I believe the more cultures you know, the more you understand humanity” Meet Pavel Castillo, a cool Mexican student passionate about travelling and meeting people from all backgrounds! After being a member of ISAY during his first year, he decided to get involved because this organization gives people the chance to be exposed to such a variety of cultures that makes it indispensable to resist! In short, He considers himself a 'social nerd' who enjoys assuming leadership positions such as this one in addition to being the promotions director of the Vanier college Council. For the next three years, hopefully, he intends to complete degrees in Finances and Business Economics.
