EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE 2011/2012
- PAVEL CASTILLO-President

I would like to run for the *PRESIDENT *position at ISAY. I have been a member of ISAY for the past two years and occupied the position of Marketing Director for the current term. I believe my qualifications and motivations to lead the incoming executive team are complementary and would be most beneficial to our organization. Besides being an executive member at ISAY, I have also been the promotions director for Vanier College Athletics. From my involvement with those two organizations at York University, I have become familiarized with the ordinary processes student organizations face. Similarly, I have participated as a mediator to cope with disagreements between York administration and in particular Vanier College Athletics, therefore I have gained valuable experience to manage differences among several individuals in a diplomatic manner.
I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Administrative Studies with specialized honours in Marketing. This program consists in extensive training in leadership, ethics, and managerial skills. I am currently working as the Financial Director of a law firm, thus I am involved in decision making, planning and project management in a daily basis along with training and mentoring. However, for the present application, I will focus on my student involvement at York University.
From my involvement with both organizations, I have developed my interpersonal skills and became a sensitive listener thorough the continuous interaction with my executive peers. Thus, I am capable of analyzing a
central situation from different perspectives by remaining receptive to different ideas and encourage others to interact among each other. Being involved in the mentioned organizations have provided me with valuable
experience to work with people from different backgrounds and ideologies always in the endeavour of serving the student community while keeping a welcoming environment to other executive members. In this context, I have a
high sense of justice and ethics in my personal and professional life.
My current participation in ISAY as the Marketing director has not only motivated me to run for the presidential position, but has also provided me with experience and knowledge that would be most valuable to the incoming
executive team. I gave my maximum to work close with my peers to learn as much as I can from them. All of them are very skilled and incredible individuals to work with. I have learn a great deal from every one of them and I will do my best to pull it all together to bring our organization one more step up. Through ISAY I have made life lasting friendships with many of our general membership and of course the rest of the executive team. This sort of experience is something I would strive for our student community if I become the President of our organization through extensive work and effort.

KIMBERLY BADAL Vicepresident

ISAY is an organization that is very close to my heart. I have been with ISAY for the last 3 years; first as a general volunteer and then as the Events Coordinator. I owe to ISAY the smooth transition that I had in my first year as well as the many great memories that I have had with people from all over the world. This organisation is an important resource for those who have to make a home away from home. In my final year at York I would like continue my involvement and take up the position of Vice President for the 2011-2012 academic year.
The knowledge I have gained from working with ISAY for the last 3 years is definitely my biggest asset. I understand not only the commitment and hard work required to make ISAY flourish but also how we are supposed to work as a team and the things that need to be accomplished over the next year. It is with such background knowledge that I would proceed into the next year with a solid plan on how to lead this organisation to an even better year.
I understand the Vice-President to be a support for the President and the Executive. I also understand it to be a position where I am to be a main point of contact along with the President for communication with external groups. But above all, I understand the position to be one that ensures that ISAY meets your needs as an International Student. If ISAY meets your needs and exceed your expectation then I consider it to be a job well done!
It with great optimism and expectancy that I look to ISAY’s next academic year. I am confident in my ideas, my leadership skills and my capabilities. I have a vision, a plan of execution and spirit of excitement. As your Vice-President I will promise to give it my greatest effort to help make ISAY an even greater success than it already is!
I am ready to work, I am ready for this job and I am ready for this challenge.

- THOBANI NDLANGAMANDLA-Student Affairs Director-Fall semester

My name is Thobani Ndlangamandla and I have been a member of ISAY for one semester. I
would like the opportunity to run for the Student Affairs Director Position because I want to be involved in implementing the changes that I would like to see happen at York University. I often find myself complaining about how international students appear to be getting the short end of the stick, but I have never put myself in a position where I can do anything about it. As international students, I firmly believe that it is our duty to stand together in order to achieve a common goal. I know, from first-hand experience, that being an international student presents its own set of challenges and I believe that by uniting we can help one another make an easier
transition to York University. Consequently, I would like to be a part of the body of students that facilitates this I believe that I am suitable to be the Student Affairs Director because I hold the same values that this position attempts to achieve through ISAY. I am very passionate about the rights that we should have, as international students, therefore, I would be driven to do what it takes to advocate for international students. I find that this drive would be complimented by my strong
will and ability to speak my mind, when the need arises. I also think that I would be suitable for this role because I am self-motivated and do not require constant supervision to get a task completed.
I have a strong work ethic and believe in doing everything to the best of my ability, no matter how small a task may seem. I find that this is an important quality to have when dealing when people’s thoughts and concerns. In addition, I am very organized, am able to work in a fast paced environment and am punctual and respect deadlines.
Lastly, I believe I am qualified for this position because having been a member of the
committee that co-ordinated our graduation at my high school; I have experience dealing with the coordination of events. I am accustomed to team work and can thrive, both as a member of a team as well as
independently.

- Haichen Zhang Finance Director

Hello, This is Haichen Zhang, I'm currently a paid ISAY member and also a general volunteer since last September. I'm writing this email to nominate myself for running the position Financial Director. Obtaining a position as a Financial Director in ISAY will give me an opportunity to work with the ISAY Executive Committee and general public; to meet a variety of international students as well as learning new skills, most importantly it will give me a great experience for my future career working in financial services. I have the following reasons to back me up, first, I'm majoring in accounting and I'm also taking the accounting course this semester, this course gives me basic knowledge of how to manage different accounts and cash flow, also to keep track of each expense and income to keep the account well balanced and to finally make ends meet at the end of a financial year, I'm also able to use computer software as tools to finish the job more efficiently. Secondly, running a position as a financial director requires time and efforts, thus it requires a person to be able to handle the position related matters in ISAY and also deal with their own school work. I believe I'm able to multitasking if I can get this position, take this year as an example, I started volunteering at ISAY from last September, meanwhile I'm also volunteering as a presentation speaker in York International-York in the world project, and I got hired in this January as a Volunteer Student Ambassador responsible for leading campus tours at York University, with all these extracurricular activities I can still finish my school work on time and perform each volunteer position well. Third, as an international student myself, my first language is Mandarin, I can help some newly landed mandarin speaking students to answer their questions and also to promote our associations, by being elected as executive member, I can definitely bring another multicultural factor into this organization. Also I’m fully capable of working alone as well as in a team and learning quickly to apply the skills this position asks for. According to the points above, I’m positive that I can do a good job. Thank you for your time and consideration.

- ASTRID HASFURA- Events Coordinator

Hi, my name is Astrid Hasfura and i would like to run for Events Coordinator for the coming 2011-2012 school year. Even though I have only been a member of ISAY for the past couple of months, I think that not only will ISAY benefit from having me in this position but i will also gain priceless experience that will serve me well in the future. The reason i chose to apply for events coordinator is because as much work as that might be, it sounds like one of
those jobs you will have fun completing once all the stress is gone. During my time in high school, i came to be part of the Model UN student council. In this position, I was in charge of preparing delegates and coordinating events so my fellow co-workers and I could accomplish this task (of preparing the delegates). Such events included training sessions, Model UN simulations and planning and scheduling the club's trips to conferences.
Being a natural planner as i am, not only do i feel the need to thoroughly organize my life, but through the years i have become an efficient and dedicated planner, which I think is a vital characteristic for an events coordinator.
Having said that, i think that its important not only to have the right characteristics for the job, but also the enthusiasm to do it. I assure you that if elected for this position i will try my best and work my hardest to help make ISAY a better club and to coordinate events that reflect the club's interest and support in the well being of the international students here at York. My interest in applying for this position was strongly influenced by what ISAY has offered me; from the very day I went to my international orientation, ISAY helped me feel welcomed and cared for as far away from home as I am. At ISAY, I have met interesting and inspiring people that i can now call my friends. Just the orientation by itself was a great and well planned event, as have been all the other ISAY events i have participated in. For this, i am very interested in helping next year's events be as fun and fruitful as the ones i have attended this year, and make next year's new comers feel just as welcomed as i did. I honestly believe, that you will not regret it if you select me to be the next Events Coordinator for ISAY. I can guarantee that the skills and enthusiasm I have make me a perfect candidate for this job. And finally if I may, just know that i really really want this position, not only for the working experience I will gain but for the gratification of helping other students and meeting many people from different and interesting backgrounds.

- CAROLYN ROSA-Marketing Director
This is my first year at York University. As an International student, when I first arrived to York I came with the hope that I could find a group of people to whom I could relate to, other international students. In my search for this group I found ISAY and promptly decided to join. ISAY was not only my link to the International community at York, but the students that are part of it were always willing to help me and address my concerns when I needed. Furthermore, ISAY allowed me to meet and make life-long friends with many other students from around the World, as well as it provided me with the opportunity to get involved in numerous activities that undoubtedly made my first year at York, a memorable experience.
I would love to become part of the team of students who arduously work to maintain the international community at York alive and help continue the efforts to promote internationalization in our university.
Being aware of the importance of communication among a group, I believe I possess the skills necessary to successfully work as the Marketing Director at ISAY. I have previously worked as a voluntary doing translation services for an organization. This position allowed me to appreciate the great importance that communication has, which I believe is very important when dealing with many other students with different backgrounds. As part of my school’s Model United Nations Committee, I was able to work as the logistics coordinator and treasurer, which required responsibility, commitment, and time management. On the other hand, I worked as Vice-president of my class, which allowed me to serve as a role model and an example to my peers and take a leadership role. In addition, this year I was a Global Ambassador at Global House in the Pond Road Residence, this role allowed me to further develop my communicate skills with other members of my community.
I believe that the community where we live has a big impact in our lives. I am also extremely thankful that I could find a group of students that share the same interests with me and that are willing to provide help to other International students at York.
