International Student FAQ

1.Where do I get my UHIP Card?
Pick up it up at York International (York Lanes, Room 200) during office hours, at the start of every academic year. Bring your passport or other official identification with your picture as well as identification from York University that has your student number.
You must sign for receipt of your card and therefore we are unable to mail it to you.
It is not always possible for proof of coverage to be issued same day.
*If you are a Glendon student, pick your card at Glendon’s Office of Student Affairs.

2. ISIC
Students may apply for an International Student Identity Card (ISIC) through York Federation of Students (336 Student Centre, 4700 Keele St. York University). This card is internationally recognized proof of full-time student status. With it you will be eligible for discounts in 70 countries. The card provides access to student discounts on domestic air travel purchased through Travel CUTS, a 35% discount on Via Rail train travel and 25% discount on Greyhound bus trips. Reduced rates can be obtained for accommodations, admission to some of the world’s most renowned museums, historical sites, and entertainment. You will have to provide a small photograph (such as a passport photo), your date of birth, proof of your student status (i.e. Sessional Identification Card). The ISIC card is free to York students as they are members of the Canadian Federation of Students.

3. Toronto Transit Commission (TTC)
This is Toronto’s main means of transportation for commuters. It is a public transit system linked by buses, streetcars and subways. Some TTC bus routes have stops right inside York University's Keele campus and on the street at the entrance to Glendon campus. Tokens and Metropasses can be bought at many convenience stores and all subway stations.

As a student, you can obtain a TTC student card and purchase your TTC Metropass at the discounted rate of $99 CA. Follow the next steps:

1. Must pre-register at the Data Card website, this will be available after August 1, 2010. The URL for the website is:

2. Obtain your photo identification from from the TTC Sherbourne Station Photo ID Centre's hours of operation are Monday-Friday 3-7 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. (closed Sundays and Statutory Holidays).
3. Purchase your Metropass for $99 CA! You can conveniently buy your student Metropass from YFS at the student centre.

4. Grocery Stores Close to Campus

Below is a listing of grocery stores close to campus, as well as a listing of a number of categories of specialty grocers who cater to different types of food.

• Finch and Overbrook (slightly west of Senlac on the North side)
